DESCRIPTION:RECOMMENDED FOR: Educators who have had an association with the EE for at least one Diploma Programme (DP) exam session. \nThis workshop aims to help EE educators build on and further develop their knowledge and skills related to supervising and supporting students throughout their extended essay experience and enhance the quality of their management of the extended essay process. Working collaboratively with each other and the workshop facilitator\, participants will: \n\nfurther develop their skills in guiding and supporting EE students\, emphasising IB approaches to teaching and approaches to learning\ndevelop their capacity to help students to actively connect their EE experience with their experiences in the other components of the DP core\, TOK and CAS •\nenhance their understanding of the nature\, purpose and requirements of the EE and the framework that needs to be in place to effectively support students during their entire EE experience •\nenhance their capacity to develop a positive supervisorstudent relationship\, with clearly delineated and mutually understood role boundaries\, that helps students to make the most of their EE experience •\nexplore the possibilities offered by the research pathways open to students\, interdisciplinary and subject-focused\, and discuss the consequent potential emerging complex decision-making faced by students •\nshare approaches and techniques for running effective reflection sessions with students\, emphasising transfer of skills to other contexts\, both present and future • co-develop practices to manage academic integrity in an era of rapid technological change •\napply the assessment criteria uniformly to extended essays written in a range of subject-focused and interdisciplinary frameworks •\nuse the EE grade descriptors to inform the grade prediction process • use examples of assessed student work to build on and improve existing understanding of what a range of essays looks like\, using this to inform potential guidance and feedback for students

DESCRIPTION:RECOMMENDED FOR:\nDiploma Programme (DP) subject-group teachers new to\nthe DP at established IB World Schools and teachers from\ninterested or candidate schools preparing for authorization.\nEducators should enroll in a category 1 workshop in their\nparticular subject area.\nThese workshops are designed to prepare participants to teach\na specific DP subject in a manner that supports the IB mission\nstatement and philosophy. The workshop will enable participants to:\n• develop a deep understanding of the IB organization: its\nhistory\, mission statement\, learner profile\, IB continuum and\nthe international dimension\n• consider the impact of the centrality of the IB learner profile\nand approaches to teaching and learning in the DP and CP\nmodels\n• consider how the course makes links with theory of\nknowledge (TOK) and creativity\, activity\, service (CAS) and\ntakes the CP context into consideration\n• explore the nature of the extended essay and the role\nof the supervisor\, to include reference to world studies\ninterdisciplinary extended essay\n• develop an understanding of student and teacher\napproaches to inquiry in the DP/CP classroom\n• design course outlines that align with curriculum\nrequirements\, aims and assessment objectives of the subject\,\nIB terminology and the relevant standards\n• design student engagements for interactions with the\nsyllabus concepts and content\n• articulate the assessment requirements\n• create formative assessment tasks that will equip students\nwith the required factual\, procedural and conceptual\nknowledge that support the summative assessment task(s)\n• use assessment criteria to make judgments about student\nachievement (criterion-related\, best fit)\n• interact with and explore the TSM and subject-specific\nteaching and learning resources on the programme resource\ncentre and in the programme communities throughout the\ncurriculum life cycle\n• select and analyse suitable resources that support teaching\nand learning in an IB classroom\n• promote the importance of academic integrity\n• participate in professional learning communities within and\nbeyond your school to facilitate the transfer of professional\ndevelopment \nAND \nRECOMMENDED FOR:\nDiploma Programme (DP) subject teachers who have\nprepared students for at least one DP exam session in that\nspecific subject. Educators should enroll in a category 2\nworkshop in their particular subject area.\nThese workshops are designed for participants who are keen\nto improve the teaching and learning experience in the DP\nclassroom. The workshop will enable participants to:\n• unpack elements of the IB Programme standards and\npractices as a guide for decisions regarding delivery of the\nsubject\n• review and share strategies that support successful\ncollaborative planning and reflection which deepen links\nwith the DP core—theory of knowledge (TOK)\, CAS and EE\n• consolidate understanding of the nature of the extended\nessay and the role of the supervisor\, to include reference to\nworld studies interdisciplinary extended essay\n• examine the connection between their chosen subject\, the\napproaches to teaching and learning and the learner profile\nwhile promoting international-mindedness\n• create teaching and learning strategies that develop selfregulated and metacognitive learners\n• design appropriate inquiry-based lessons and activities for\ntheir subject\n• discuss strategies for addressing assessment-related\nchallenges in the chosen subject\n• understand how to arrive at a judgment using a common\nassessment task and published criteria\n• analyse IB subject reports to promote student achievement\n• discuss successful strategies for recording\, reporting and\nmonitoring ongoing student progress in the subject group\n• design formative learning engagements that will equip\nstudents with the required factual\, procedural and\nconceptual knowledge that support the summative\nassessment task(s)\n• engage with and integrate current IB publications on the\nprogramme resource centre into the teaching of their\nsubject\n• discuss and share strategies to promote academic integrity\n• interact with and explore the TSM and subject-specific\nteaching and learning resources on the programme\nresource centre and in the programme communities\nthroughout the curriculum life cycle \n• participate in professional learning communities within and\nbeyond your school to facilitate the transfer of professional\ndevelopment\n• reflect on the teacher’s role in programme evaluation\,\nparticularly how to highlight horizontal and vertical inschool planning
