IB Travel Information

LOCATION

  • We are thrilled to present both of our in-person workshops this Summer, June 11-13 and July 9-11, at the beautiful David T. Howard Middle School (551 John Wesley Dobbs Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30312).

  • David T. Howard Middle School is located in Midtown Atlanta. It was donated in 1923/1924 as a primary school by Mr. David T. Howard. Throughout its existence as a primary school, high school, and middle school, it educated legends like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Herman J. Russell, and Walt Frazier. Currently, the school is comprised of a diverse population of 1140 students and 120 staff members. Inman Middle School students and faculty transitioned to the newly renovated, historic school building for the 2020-21 school year. David T. Howard Middle School, re-opened its doors to the community in August 2020 officially as a middle school.

  • The neighborhoods of the Old 4th Ward and Inman Park offer endless possibilities for lodging, dining, and attractions.

AIR TRAVEL

  • Your participation, all week, in every session is vital. Be advised that attendees must participate in all class sessions to receive their official IB certificate of attendance.

  • To ensure your full participation at the workshop from start to finish and ample travel time to and within Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, do not choose a flight departing Atlanta before 4:00 pm.

  • If you have not visited Atlanta before, our airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International, is the world’s busiest! There are multiple terminals connected by a very efficient train. The airport is very large and spread out so you must allow enough time, once you get there, to deal with your luggage, make your way through security screening, get to your terminal on the passenger train, and then still reach your gate at the terminal.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

  • Our location is perhaps the most walkable part of the city! Once you get intown, and depending on where you are staying, our workshop venue is easily accessible by public transportation or on foot. We strongly recommend choosing close-in lodging so you can enjoy Atlanta to the fullest.

  • If you have a car and plan to drive to our event site, David T. Howard Middle School (551 John Wesley Dobbs Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30312), there is surface parking and free street parking.

  • CASIE has negotiated a discounted car rental rate with Enterprise Rent-A-Car/National Car Rental. To obtain this discount, click HERE and use group code XZ03314 when making your reservation.

  • Our public transportation system, MARTA, will bring you directly into town from the airport in about 25 mintues and $2.50. MARTA covers everywhere you want to go intown; it will allow you to move about almost everywhere you want to visit.

  • For farther trips, Uber , Lyft, and taxis are plentiful and well-priced. We recommend Uber or Lyft over our local taxi services.

LODGING RECOMMENDATIONS

Our new event venue is the David T. Howard Middle School in Atlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward. O4W, as we affectionately call the neighborhood, is an extremely historic part of the city. Being a very residential area and a small business hub, there are no hotels in the immediate neighborhood. However, there are hundreds of cute and homey Airbnbs within walking distance of the school. We strongly recommend this as your best lodging move if you want to enjoy everything this thriving Atlanta neighborhood has to offer!

Staying within walking distance to the school also puts you within walking distance of hundreds of food, shopping, and entertainment options. You will also be right on our city’s beautiful emerald necklace of parks and trails, the Beltline

If you prefer to stay in a hotel, look to the adjacent neighborhood of Midtown Atlanta, which is a long walk or a short MARTA or car ride away. Midtown offers a dynamic urban experience with a perfect blend of culture, convenience, and entertainment options.

As a courtesy to our participants, we have secured  conference rates with the following Midtown hotels, located within 3 miles of our conference site: David T. Howard Middle School.  Click on the hotel links below to receive the preferred rate.

Registration

All of CASIE’s IB workshop registrations are made through our online registration system, linked from this website. See the bottom of this page to find out what you will need to know/have on hand to register. Once the registration is complete, the registrant – as well as the listed IB Coordinator and billing contact – will receive a confirmation email. Until you are registered and confirmed in our system, we cannot guarantee a seat in your desired workshop.

If the workshop is full when you register, you can join a waitlist, linked at the top of the page. There is no guarantee that a seat will open up; but if it does, we will contact you and offer the option to accept the seat, at which point, payment would be due.

In general, registration will close one week before the event start date. For special consideration after that, please contact registration@casieonline.org.
